The Canary Islands – Four Islands, Extraordinary Film Locations
I have been lucky enough to scout most of the Canary Islands over the years for various film and television projects, and the Canary Islands offer some of the most diverse film locations in Europe. What continually strikes me is just how much is there. Sitting in the Atlantic just off the coast of North […]

London Filming Locations – London as London, or Almost Anywhere Else
London filming locations offer an extraordinary level of versatility, and for me that is one of the main reasons the city has become one of the leading production hubs in the world. Yes, the UK has a competitive tax incentive, highly experienced crews and some of the best department heads in the business. We also […]

Thailand Filming Locations – From Bangkok to the Islands
Thailand has some of the most diverse filming locations in Southeast Asia, and I’ve been fortunate enough to scout and work there for nearly 30 years. I first scouted Thailand back in the late 1990s for TV commercials. A Nescafé commercial with Paul Arden, shooting in Bangkok and Phuket, was the first, followed a few […]

Wales – A Land of Extraordinary Filming Locations
There are very few countries that can rival the sheer diversity of filming locations found across North, Mid and South Wales. Despite its relatively compact size, it offers an astonishing range of landscapes, from towering mountains and dramatic coastlines to medieval castles, ancient forests, vast slate quarries, cascading waterfalls, peaceful lakes and remote wilderness. Over […]

Vietnam Location Scouting – A Location Manager’s Guide
I had always wanted to visit Vietnam. It was a country that fascinated me growing up, sadly so often associated with the war, but I knew there had to be so much more to it. I have been fortunate enough to scout locations across much of the country over the past 30 years for television […]

Brutal London: Concrete, Straight Lines and Why I Love Brutalist Architecture
There, I’ve said it. It’s ugly. Or at least, that’s what a lot of people will tell you. Huge slabs of concrete, hard edges, straight lines and buildings that can look as though they’ve been dropped into London from a slightly bleak vision of the future. But I love it. Maybe it’s the location manager […]

The Things You Do to Get the Shot: Wonder Woman at Mount Huashan During the first Wonder Woman film, I travelled across China scouting and photographing landscapes for VFX plates that would help create Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s mythical island home. The journey took me from Chengdu in western China all the way to Shanghai on […]
